Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 27, 2026
In short
Freelance Hours (sold in Poland as Czas Pracy) works without an account, without a server and without analytics. Your projects, clients, rates and time entries are stored only on your Mac. We can’t access them and we never receive them in any form.
1. Who we are
Freelance Hours / Czas Pracy (“the App”) is published by Damian Wiśniewski, TheHardWay Studio, thehardway.pl (“we”, “us”, “the Developer”).
- E-mail: contact@thehardway.pl
We act as a data controller only for the messages you send us (Section 7). We don’t process the data you keep in the App, because it never reaches us.
2. What we don’t do
The App does not:
- require or allow you to create an account,
- send your data to any Developer-operated server (there is no backend),
- include analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party crash-reporting SDKs,
- monitor your activity on your Mac, in other apps or on websites,
- share or sell data to anyone.
In line with the privacy manifest shipped with the App, the App collects no data types and does not track you.
3. Data stored on your Mac
The App stores locally the data you enter:
| Type of data | Examples |
|---|---|
| Clients | client name, archived status |
| Projects | name, client, hourly rate and currency, color, note, archived status |
| Time entries | project, start and end, note, whether the entry is billable |
| Settings | language, theme, currency, reminder settings, last selected project, list of backups you made |
The data is saved in the App’s sandbox container at ~/Library/Containers/pl.thehardway.CzasPracy/. macOS protects it: only your user account and the App can access it. If FileVault is on, it is encrypted on disk together with the rest of your files.
If you type other people’s data into client names or notes (for example a client’s full name), you decide how that data is processed and you are responsible for it towards those people. We have no access to it.
4. Files you create: exports and backups
- CSV and PDF export saves a report wherever you choose in the standard macOS save panel.
- Backup (PRO) saves all App data to a single JSON file in a location you choose. Restore from backup reads a file you pick.
The App does not encrypt these files. A backup file contains all your data in readable form, so store it like any other confidential document. If you save it to a folder synced with a cloud service (such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox), that service’s terms apply. The App can’t access any files on your Mac other than the ones you pick.
5. Network access
The App connects to the internet only through Apple’s StoreKit to:
- load prices and descriptions of the PRO plan,
- complete a purchase or subscription,
- restore purchases and check whether PRO is active.
Apple handles all transactions. We don’t receive your name, e-mail address or payment details. The App stores only the result of the PRO entitlement check locally. Apart from that, the App works fully offline.
6. Apple system services
Some features rely on macOS services that are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy:
| Feature | What happens |
|---|---|
| Nudges | Optional notifications about a long-running timer or a day with no entries are scheduled locally on your Mac. The App asks for notification permission; you can revoke it in System Settings. |
| Shortcuts, Spotlight and Siri | You can run the “Add time entry” action from Shortcuts, Spotlight or Siri. The action’s data goes straight to the App. If you use Siri, Apple handles speech recognition. |
| App Store / StoreKit | Purchases, subscription, free trial, restoring purchases. |
| Crash reports | If you chose to share analytics with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may send us anonymized crash reports. They don’t identify you. You can change this in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. |
7. When you contact us
If you e-mail us, we process your e-mail address, your message and anything you attach (such as your macOS version or a screenshot) to reply and solve the issue.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, for questions about using the App or complaints, performance of a contract and legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR).
- Retention: until the matter is resolved, and then for the limitation period of any possible claims or until you successfully object.
- Recipients: the e-mail provider we use, acting on our behalf.
Please don’t send us your backup file or other App data unless it’s needed to solve the problem.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR (and similar laws such as the UK GDPR and CCPA/CPRA) you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object to the processing of your data. For data stored in the App you exercise these rights yourself, without our involvement:
| Right | How to exercise it |
|---|---|
| Access and portability | Export CSV in Reports, or make a backup in Settings → Backup (PRO). |
| Rectification | Edit a client, project or entry directly in the App. |
| Erasure | Delete entries in the App, or delete the App and its data folder (see Section 9). |
| Objection and withdrawing consent | Turn off nudges in the App or revoke notification permission in System Settings. |
For anything about your correspondence with us, write to contact@thehardway.pl. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Our lead authority is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office in Poland (Prezes UODO, ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, uodo.gov.pl); you may also contact the authority in your country.
We have no account system, so we can’t look up or hand over data about a specific App user. That’s not reluctance: we simply don’t have such data.
9. How to delete your data
- Quit the App.
- Move the App to the Trash.
- Delete the folder
~/Library/Containers/pl.thehardway.CzasPracy/(in Finder: Go → Go to Folder).
Delete any export or backup files you saved outside the App yourself. PRO purchases stay linked to your Apple ID and can be restored after reinstalling.
10. Children
The App is a professional work tool and is not directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect children’s data.
11. International transfers
We don’t transfer App data to anyone, inside or outside the European Economic Area. If you store files in a cloud service yourself, that provider decides where they are kept.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. We’ll mention material changes in the App Store release notes. The current version is always available at this address.
